As with many funeral home families, in his youth he earned his stripes washing cars and doing maintenance around the funeral home. A graduate of Cumberland High School and Marquette University, it was in college when he chose funeral service as his profession. While living in Milwaukee, he worked at one of the 8 locations for Schmidt & Bartelt Funeral Homes. He attended the Cincinnati College of Mortuary Science, worked for the Eldon A. Good Funeral Home and graduated from mortuary school in 1996. He returned to Cumberland and began his career at Skinner Funeral Home. He purchased and began operating the Pockat Funeral Home in Shell Lake in 2004, the Jarocki Funeral Home in Rice Lake in January of 2007 and the Cumberland and Turtle Lake homes in 2008.

Elizabeth moved every three years of her life due to her father serving in the US Air Force. While she cannot say that she is from any one place, she has grown to think of Barron County as her home. She began working for Skinner Funeral Home through an internship in 2017 and became a licensed funeral director in the winter of 2020. Elizabeth feels both humbled and honored to serve families by guiding them through the difficult transition of losing a loved one.
